Choosing a kitchen worktop.
A fusion of form and function.

KITCHEN WORKTOPS

HomefrontWorktops

Choosing kitchen worktops is a big decision.

Worktops are a major aspect of both the functionality and style of your kitchen. Our skilled kitchen designers will help you through the choices and options, but here’s a summary of key factors to consider:

Material

Stone Elegance: Granite, quartz, and marble are all gorgeous and durable options. Granite is a natural stone known for its resilience and heat resistance. Quartz is a manufactured stone that offers similar benefits to granite with a wider variety of colours and patterns. Marble is luxurious but can be prone to staining and scratching.

Warmth of Wood: Butcher block and other hardwood countertops provide warmth and beauty. They are relatively budget-friendly but require regular maintenance with oiling to prevent water damage. We work with solid timber such as oak, beech, bamboo and walnut.

Laminate’s Versatility: This is a cost-effective option that comes in a vast array of colours and designs. Laminate is easy to maintain but may not be as durable as other materials. We work with solid core laminate.

Other options like stainless steel offers a sleek, modern look and is very hygienic, but can show scratches easily. Concrete is a unique choice for a contemporary kitchen; it’s heat resistant but can be cold to the touch.

Consider your lifestyle

How much use will your worktops get? Busy families might prioritise a low-maintenance material like quartz.

Are you a keen cook?

Heat resistance will be important, and wood may not be the best choice around the hob.

Budget

Worktops can range in price from laminate being the most affordable to granite and quartz at the higher end.

Aesthetics

Think about the overall style of your kitchen. Granite and wood offer a classic look, while quartz and concrete can be more modern.

Consider the colour of your flooring to ensure everything complements each other.

Additional Factors

Thickness: Standard worktops are 30mm thick, but there are also thinner and thicker options available.

Seams: If you have an L-shaped kitchen or a large island, you may need to consider how seams will be addressed in the worktop material.

By carefully evaluating these factors, you’ll be well on your way to selecting the ideal kitchen worktop – one that reflects your style and endures the test of time!
